Commentary By Ron Beasley
Now I may not miss Mercury the car but I will miss Jill Wagner, the Mercury Girl. My father's first new car was a Mercury but that was in the early 50s. Mercury has been little but a Ford with a different grill for years and other than the lovely Jill there is probably no reason for Mercury to exist. Just another sign that our automobile centered society is coming to a close. It goes the way of Plymouth, another family favorite. So say goodbye to Mercury - times they are a changing.
Sorry Ron I was never a Ford person. When we did have a car they were always Chryslers - Plymouths etc looked like land whales & my da stuck his old RCAF great coat over the engine during winter to keep it warm for starting in the morning, ah the miserable old days eh. Me, an ex-GM apprentice, I was upset GM ditched Pontiac such a great and honourable name not now to be seen on the highways.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite as a little kid was the 1954 Mercury - especially http://image.customrodder.com/f/26689048/0704cr_05_z+0704cr_1954_mercury_monterey+classic_rear_bumper.jpg>that fine rear end.
